Trolley Station Improvements

The Project.

San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) is a public agency comprised of local elected officials to make regional strategic plans to engineer and build public transportation and improve overall quality of life. This encompasses projects from improving accessibility to local public transportation, bikeways, trolley, and major highway improvements to economic planning. The SCS, by legislative action, is now incorporated into project planning.

Project Fact:

Sustainable Communities Strategy (SCS), is the planned 40-year evolution of the San Diego region’s transportation system. The design of these projects is contracted by SANDAG through IDIQ, on-call, and design-build contracts.

Leighton has been a subconsultant on many of these, building on experience on rail, highway, interchange, bikeway, and trolley projects.

This project near the airport was improvements for ADA-accessible pedestrian access from the Middletown Trolley Station coordinated with a future airport shuttle service. Leighton provided a geotechnical investigation and recommendations for the proposed 10’ retaining wall necessary to widen the sidewalk.
