Sunset Ridge Park

The Project.

Located north of the intersection of Superior Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway, this new city park encompasses an area of approximately 12 acres, with of sports fields, tot lots, skate parks, natural and passive park areas, restroom buildings, and parking lots. The park site, ideal for location and available land, presented challenges, both geotechnical and political, which extended the anticipated schedule.

Project Fact:

The district chose a Lease-Leaseback delivery method to meet the increased support their growing district was facing.

The Leighton Solution.

Leighton conducted a geotechnical investigation of the site to explore the subsurface conditions, evaluate the soil characteristics, and provide recommendations for design and construction of the proposed park improvements.

We also provided a response to comments made by the California Coastal Commission regarding the potential for faulting at the site, and a foundation plan review for the proposed site improvements.

The primary geotechnical concerns for the site included faulting, groundwater and slope stability.
