Smart Corner

The Project.

Unlike any other project, the San Diego Trolley’s College Station separates two structures: a 301-unit, 19-story residential tower, and a five-story, 93,000-square-foot office building with 25,000 square feet of ground-floor retail – all over a five-level, below-grade parking garage. This project is a major element of the Park-to-Bay Link.

The Leighton Solution.

Leighton was contracted to provide environmental engineering services from a Phase I ESA through oversight of the excavation and transfer of numerous waste streams.

Approximately 9,100 tons of lead impacted soil was removed and approximately 28,900 tons of petroleum hydrocarbon impacted soil was transported off site to an approved local landfill. Experience on other projects in the downtown area proved valuable when Leighton recommended and completed a Human Health Risk Assessment of the basement area.

Based on the results of the HRA, engineering controls (i.e. vapor barrier) were not required below the five-level subterranean garage, thus saving our client $60,000 and construction time.
