Redevelopment has been an overwhelming success in San Diego. Many areas that experienced long term neglect were targeted for new housing and retail to foster communities. The Mercado Del Barrio project was one with retail, restaurants, plazas, a Community Center, as well as townhomes and rental properties. The housing component provided new low-income options.

The Leighton Solution.
Leighton worked with the developer providing the geotechnical investigation of multiple properties, geotechnical observation and testing services during grading and soldier beam shoring installation, and geologic mapping.
During grading, a previously unidentified fault was exposed in the lower portion of the basement excavation. Leighton’s Certified Engineering Geologist was on site to observe and geologically map the fault during grading and excavation and sidewall logging. Based on the age of the most recent episode of faulting, combined with the minor nature of the features observed and the discontinuous and buried nature of the faulting, Leighton determined no additional recommendations for construction of the proposed structure were required.
