Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery Miramar Annex

The Project.

The 164-acre annex to the cemetery opened at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar allows for nearly 160,000 new burials. A maintenance complex, administrative complex, columbaria, flag court, and committal service shelters were constructed and a new on-site sanitary sewer system was proposed and designed to City standards.

The Leighton Solution.

The site was mass graded as part of the development process with a network of internal roadways and utilities. The site of the proposed annex had biologically sensitive areas of coastal sage scrub and vernal pools present, as well as a powerline and two pipelines that crossed the property. Grading was kept to a minimum with natural features, such as sensitive habitat, streams, or wetlands, were left untouched and incorporated into the landscaping.

Leighton performed a preliminary geotechnical report, a slope stability analysis for two profile scenarios including a scour/jetting study of pipeline rupture scenario, and geotechnical investigation to assist in the development of the Master Plans.
